Robotics At Work
Vicarious Surgical is reimagining surgical robotics to be less invasive and more capable. Its robot maximizes the surgeon’s view of and access to the abdomen with just one small 1.8-centimeter incision. The Vicarious Surgical system is composed of a surgeon console, which provides the surgeon control and visualization, and a patient cart, which enables the robot and camera to be inserted and manipulated.

Surgeon Console + Patient Cart
The workstation and patient cart share the same design language, which Huge Design devised to be equal parts capable and approachable.
The Vicarious Surgical system is comprised of a Surgeon Console, providing surgeon control and visualization, and a Patient Cart, enabling robot and camera insertion and manipulation.
To begin the design process, Huge Design observed the Vicarious robot and digested the requirements for the workstation’s control and visualization functions
Several ergonomic breadboard models were built along the process and eventually tested with our internal VR system to experience one-to-one feature placement.
The result of our research, analysis, and iterations was a workstation that enables surgeons to operate the robot with either a VR headset or a traditional display.
